Malawi Cichlids Fish
Malawi cichlids, originating from Lake Malawi in Eastern Africa are the most colourful freshwater fish available on the market. Dressed in an array of stunning colours, they can easily match the beauty of many marine fish species.
Malawi Cichlids are not suitable for tropical environments or our range of column aquariums, due to their slightly aggressive nature. However, when settled into one of our larger aquariums will show their personalities and often breed, brooding their young in their mouth.

Yellow Lab
Labidochromis Caeruleus
These fish are admired not only for their vivid colouration but also for their peaceful nature, which is rare amongst African Cichlids.
Their bright yellow scales shimmer in contrast to their jet-black fin tips, making it standout in any aquascape.
Behaviour: Yellow labs are considered one of the most peaceful Cichlids. They are active swimmers, who will constantly explore the aquarium and any rocks and crevices within it.
Size: 4-5” (10-12cm)

Red Zebra
These fish will bring a burst of colour with their flame red and orange scales. Known for its strong territorial nature they can be quite aggressive but when kept with peaceful fish, they are a lovely addition to any aquarium.
Behaviour: Red zebras are constantly on the move, exploring their aquarium and interacting with other fish. Males can be especially territorial and will defend their chosen space.
Size: 4-6” (10-15cm)

Peacock Cichlid
O.B Aulonocara
These fish are beautiful additions to any aquarium, with its stunning array of colours ranging from deep blues and vibrant oranges to rich reds and purples. Males achieve the most impressive colours to attract the females.
Behaviour: This cichlid is known for its peaceful nature compared to other cichlids. They like to swim socially in groups and are not shy, often coming to the front of the tank when somebody approaches – especially at feeding time.
Size: 6-7” (15-18cm)

Red Coral
Aulonocara Firesh
Are an attractive species, glowing with fiery shades of coral red and orange, their shimmering scales reflecting the light as they move gracefully through the water.
Red Coral are not only valued for their beauty but also for their relatively peaceful temperament.
Behaviour: Red corals are curious and active fish, who like to explore their environment, dig in the substrate and rearrange tank décor. Males may be a little aggressive during breeding time.
Size: 6-8” (15-20cm)

Cobue
Also known by the name Dogtooth Cichlid, due to two sharp, pointy teeth. Males are a rich dark blue in colour with vertical black stripes, that deepen during times of dominance or courtship, whilst females have no stripes and are paler in colour.
They prefer aquariums with plenty of rocks and caves, as in the wild they like to dig a hole and guard it fiercely. Its vivid presence brings both energy and colour to any cichlid aquarium.
Behaviour: They are highly territorial and aggressive, especially males who will fiercely defend a chosen cave or rock. They will establish a pecking order with the most colourful and dominant being at the top.

Sunset Orange
Aulonocara Sunset
As the name suggests, these beautiful fish display the sunset colours of bright yellow to orange. Their scales shimmer and reflect light creating an eye-catching display in the aquarium. They are peaceful in nature and will complement many Cichlid species.
Behaviour: They are active and energetic, constantly on the move exploring, chasing and guarding their territory. Sometimes the males can be aggressive, especially during breeding season.

Cobalt Blue Zebra
A stunning Cichlid species with electric blue colouring with dark blue/black vertical bands that are more pronounced in males, particularly around breeding season.
They thrive in rocky environments, which mimic the natural habitat of caves and rocky outcrops in lake Malawi. Utilising these structures within the aquarium for shelter and breeding.
Behaviour: Cobalt Blue Zebra live in a social hierarchy where dominant fish display brighter colour and more confidence. The males can be fiercely territorial, defending their rocky areas or caves.
Size: 4-6” (10-15cm)

Jacobfreibergi
Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi
These are the most colourful and peaceful of the peacock variety. Admired for its intense palette that can range from fiery orange and crimson to deep blues and purples, often with contrasting highlights along the fins and body.
This species makes a great addition to a Malawi aquarium and will do best in a thriving community.
Behaviour: They like to spend time swimming in the open areas of tanks, occasionally exploring caves and rocky areas. Males create a ‘nest’ or spawning area and perform a courtship dance to attract mates.
Size: 6-8” (15-20cm)

Bumblebee Cichlid
As their name suggests, are reminiscent of bumblebees with an elongated golden body and vertical black stripes. Juveniles are brightly coloured but become darker when mature.
They are also known as Chameleon Cichlids, as in the wild they will change colour to take advantage of other fish and steel their eggs for food.
Behaviour: Bumblebee cichlids are constantly on the move, exploring and patrolling territory or asserting control. They can be aggressive and will sometimes chase and nip other tankmates.
